STREET MEMORIAL PROGRAM

For those who never returned

Charlie Alonge is an active member of Rolling Thunder NY Chapter 3. Charlie began the street memorial campaign four years ago for a friend killed in Vietnam. He has made it his mission to never forget our fallen heros.

"It’s a way of keeping their names alive. It’s something for the mothers. That’s what it’s all about," said Charles Alonge.

Alonge designed the sign, which features the Purple Heart at the top. It was approved by the Department of Transportation and other chapters of Rolling Thunder have since adopted the project. At 100 chapters strong nationwide, Rolling Thunder has come together to honor soldiers killed while in service to our country to ensure that their names, stories and sacrifices are remembered.

"It just kept growing and growing," said Alonge. "What started as a tribute to a friend of mine has become a national campaign. By erecting these signs, they will never be forgotten."

The sign is being provided at no cost to the town and will be put up in addition to the street by the Highway Department. The memorial does not change the name of the street.
